OTTAWA (September 15, 2008) --- Métis Nation
of Ontario President, Gary Lipinski, offered congratulations
on behalf of the Métis Nation to Bruce
Dumont on his re-election as President of the
Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC).
President Dumont is entering
into his second term as MNBC President and will
continue to move the Métis Nation forward
for another four years by focusing on socio-economic
issues surrounding health, education, housing
and economic development.
President Lipinski said
“I wish to congratulate Bruce and all of
the candidates in the Métis Nation British
Columbia’s recent election. The democratic
processes that are shared across the Homeland
are a vital part of the legitimacy and strength
of our governments.”
“The Provisional
Council of the Métis Nation of Ontario
(PCMNO) looks forward to working with President
Dumont and the MNBC Board of Directors to advance
the Métis Nation’s agenda,”
added Lipinski.
The Métis are a
distinct Aboriginal people with a unique culture,
language and heritage, with an ancestral Homeland
that centres around Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan,
Alberta, British Columbia and extends into the
Northwest Territories and the northwestern United
States. The Métis played an instrumental
role in the shaping of Canada, and work tirelessly
to share their culture, traditions and knowledge
of the environment with their fellow Canadians.
