Health Branch Programme Supervisor
Aboriginal Healthy Babies, Healthy Children

A challenging opportunity exists with the Métis Nation of Ontario Health Services Branch for a person with strong administrative and analytical skills as a Health Program Supervisor. This full-time, permanent position will be based at one of the MNO office locations in Ontario which has the Aboriginal Healthy Babies Healthy Children Programme. Office locations are: Sudbury, Timmins, Thunder Bay, Dryden, Fort Frances, Kenora, North Bay, Renfrew, Baptiste Lake/Maynooth, Bancroft, Windsor, Welland, Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie, and Midland.. The successful candidate must live near, or be willing to relocate at own expense, to one of these office locations. Travel is required to MNO AHBHC sites throughout the province. Salary range is $44,000-$48,000. Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will:

  • Strategically plan, monitor, analyze, report and evaluate existing Health Services Branch programs services, systems, in regional and community-based settings; co-ordinate and produce common materials (posters, brochures, signage, etc.) for projects
  • Supervise, foster team work and co-operation MNO Health Services Staff; monitor operations and quality of all case records; facilitate staff meetings
  • Organize and provide staff training and development
  • Authorize project expenditures for submission to the MNO Director of Health
  • Develop/maintain a central record keeping system; ensure accurate and timely program records/files/ statistical/narrative reports are collected, maintained, and statistics/reports are provided on a timely and regular basis as required
  • Collaborate with Manager in the development of programs/services design, budget formation, policy and operating guidelines, implementation, monitoring and evaluating; assist in securing funds for new Health Initiatives
  • Work with Human Resources in recruitment and selection process of staff
  • Liaise and establish linkages with provincial organizations, other MNO branches, and government program representatives in collaboration with the Programme Manager
  • Produce briefing notes and other reports for presentations to the PCMNO, AGA and others as required
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality; act as an advocate on behalf of the MNO Health Branch
  • Fulfil all other responsibilities as determined by the MNO Programme Manager and/or Director of Health

Qualification

  • post secondary degree social sciences, health, business management or public administration, or equivalent experience working in social/health program areas with Aboriginal organization
  • sound knowledge of Metis and other Aboriginal communities’ culture and health issues and healing ways
  • well developed administrative skills - health program planning, policy development, research, managing, co-ordinating, decision-making, budgeting/finance, data collection, and analytical reporting
  • proven supervisory/leadership experience, including consultation/conflict resolution/negotiation skills
  • excellent organization (time management, work planning, performance measures), teamwork skills
  • ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
  • good working knowledge of range/content of government health programs, policies, procedures
  • flexibility of time - ability to travel to all areas of region, attend evening/weekend meetings
  • proficiency in current computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet and database programs)

Preference may be given to a Métis candidate within the definition of the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Registry.
