Overview
The Métis Nation of Ontario
is proud of its achievements in establishing and pushing
a Métis specific agenda in Ontario. The MNO has
made great strides for Métis through its pursuit
of Métis hunting and fishing rights, human resource
development and training, Métis bursary and scholarship
programs, and the development of a Métis self-governance
structure within Ontario.

MNOTI has introduced a number of
programs, which offer financial support and opportunity
to Métis individuals. The focus of each program is employment
and employability.

Education
Since the inception of the Métis
Nation of Ontario (MNO), education and skills development
has been identified as a key priority. As detailed within
the MNOs Statement of Prime Purpose one main objective
is To encourage academic skills development and
to enable citizens of the Métis Nation to attain
their educational aspirations. Although the MNO
has never had dedicated funds exclusive to the education
sector, programs have been developed through existing
funding to address some of these needs and establish
a solid foundation from which to move forward.
Health
The health program was put in place
to facilitate and coordinate effective activities to
address the holistic needs of the Métis Nation
in Ontario at the provincial, regional and local levels.

Métis Nation of Ontario Economic
Development (MNOED) initiative was established to assist
Métis communities across the province in developing
economic self-sufficiency.

Housing
The MNO Housing Branch operates and
provides property management services for the Thunder
Bay Metis Community Centre with a satellite office in
Innisfil, Ontario (near Barrie). In addition to
providing a fee-for-service in the programs listed below,
the Branch boasts four highly qualified technical experts,
a certified Information Technical (IT) representative
and is well respected for its professional and efficient
financial management history.

Community Access Program
The Community Access Program (CAP)
is a Government of Canada initiative, administered by
Industry Canada, that aims to provide Canadians with
affordable public access to the Internet and the skills
they need to use it effectively. The Métis Nation of
Ontario Has 6 Community Access Sites:
Toronto - Two Computer Stations
Hamilton - Two Computer Stations
Sudbury - Two Computer Stations
North Bay - Two Computer Stations
Thunder Bay - Two Computer Stations
Ottawa - Five Computer Stations
Urban Multi-purpose Aboriginal Youth Centre (UMAYC)
Funded through the Department of Canadian
Heritage, the goal of the UMAYC Initiative is to improve
the economic, social and personal prospects of urban
Aboriginal youth through the delivery of culturally
relevant activities and projects.
