Pole to Pole: The Journey of a Lifetime!

UPDATE - August 28th, 2006

Hey!

I wanted you all to know that I received notification from the Pole to Pole Leadership Institute, and I am one of the 20 Canadians selected from over 700 to attend the selection and training camp in Vancouver mid September!!!!

Hooooooooray!!!! I was so excited to get it I could hardly stand up..

Thanks soooooo much for all your support, especially those of you who gave financial contribution towards this expedition and supporting me to get to the selection camp! It paid off, and I'm on my way to hopefully making you all proud!

I'll let you know more about it as I hear from them. I will be getting an orientation package later this week or next with lists of equipment I need and the itineray of the training I'm going to be going through. They've stressed that its quite intense, so I better start going over my outdoor skills to make sure I'm ready.

Thanks again everyone! I couldn't have done it without your encouragment and support!

This fall, youth from around the world will take part in an journey that will inspire millions around the globe. A group of 20 Candians will join 240 youth in Vancouver late this summer to attend a training camp that will decide who will make the journey from the South Pole in Antartica to the North Pole under human power.

My name is Chris McLeod. I am a Metis youth originally from Aurora, Ontario. I have applied to be a part of this journey and I want you to get involved. The Pole to Pole team is still looking for youth aged 18 - 28 to apply for one of 3 teams.

The expedition team will be the team that actually travels from the South pole to the North pole under human power. They will ski, sail, bicycle and paddle through Africa and Europe inspiring other youth along the way. The advance teams will work on environmental and humanitarian projects throughout Africa and Europe for 6 - 10 months each and will be visited by the expedition team as they pass through. Finally, the education teams will travel throughout North America and Europe and teach students and public groups about world issues and show them how to get involved in their own communities.

This entire journey will be documented by camera crews living and travelling with the teams along the way and will be shown on television around the world.

I want YOU to apply to be a part of this amazing project. Together we can raise awareness about world issues and make a difference with our own two hands. Youth need role models, and I hope to inspire as many people as I can around the world through my actions and this journey.

If you are interested in supporting me on this journey I would love to hear from you. AND if you are interested in applying for a position on one of the 3 teams then there is still time. Applications are being accepted until May 31, 2006. Please contact me using the below information as soon as possible because there is some work involved in applying.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me so far. As of today I have raised over $1,500 and lead the applicants from around the world in fundraising support. I hope that in doing so I have already inspired others to surpass my personal goal. If you are interested in supporting me, please contact me. Your support not only helps people all over the world but can put me on the front lines where I can inspire others and bring pride to the Metis Nation.
